New 1 GS/s
Waveform Digitizer Features Dual Port Memory
And
1.4 GB/s Throughput Using 8-Lane PCI Express
Montreal,
Canada (April 14, 2009)
- AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high
performance, low cost PC Based Instruments,
today announced the release of
ATS9870®,
the world’s
first GigaSample waveform digitizer based on
the 8-lane PCI Express bus.
Thanks to its
advanced PCI Express bus interface,
ATS9870®
allows very fast data throughput to PC
memory. Benchmarks run by the manufacturer
show rates as high as 1.4 GB/s for sustained
throughput over many hours. This level of
sustained throughput is virtually unheard of
in the industry and enables many
applications for RF signal recording, radar,
spectroscopy and tomography that were
previously not possible without building
custom hardware.
“By combining
very fast data conversion with the fastest
commercially available bus, we have created
a unique product that our customers have
been asking for”, stated Muneeb Khalid,
President of AlazarTech. “In today’s tough
economic times, our OEM customers need
innovative products, such as ATS9870®,
in order to build high performance, yet cost
effective systems without having to invest
in custom hardware design”.

ATS9870®
offers two simultaneous analog inputs that
can each be sampled at rates up to 1 GS/s
(one 8 bit 1 GSPS ADC per channel),
providing Signal to Noise Ratio in excess of
43 dB. Each channel can have up to 2
Gigabytes of on-board acquisition memory
buffer or any one of the channels can have
up to 4 Gigabytes of on-board acquisition
memory buffer. The unit occupies only one
half-length PCI Express x8 or x16 slot.
ATS9870®
features Dual Port Acquisition Memory that
allows transfer of acquired data to PC
memory without having to stop the
acquisition session, allowing users to build
real-time systems that are not affected by
the non-real-time nature of Windows and
Linux operating systems.
Almost all waveform digitizers supplied by
competitors feature Single-Port Memory.
Single Port Memory users are forced to stop
the acquisition in order to read captured
data out of on-board, single-port memory,
resulting in potentially valuable data being
missed.

ATS9870®,
with its dual-port memory, can be used in
applications that require:
· Acquisition
of data with a rapidly occurring trigger
(radar, ultrasonics, spectrometry,
tomography …)
· Acquisition
of data with a randomly occurring trigger
(lightning test, acoustic emissions, …)
· Acquisition
of data in imaging applications that must
not have any breaks
· RF
signal recording applications that require
continuous streaming of data across the bus
OEMs can integrate the ATS9870®
PCI Express digitizers into their own
systems very easily using the Windows
Vista/XP compatible ATS-SDK Software
Development Kit. This SDK includes sample
programs written in C/C++ and Visual BASIC.
A high performance LabVIEW® VI,
called ATS-VI, is also available. A source
code Linux driver, ATS-Linux, can also be
made available to qualified customers, who
will have to execute a Non-Disclosure
Agreement. |
